Have you ever purchased airfare and wondered whether or not you got a good deal or if you overpaid?
Researching and buying airfare is stressful and can feel like you’re playing roulette. Despite countless websites touting best deals and research like what the best day of the week is to book airfares, it’s easy to wonder if you got the best possible price.
Mix in some analysis paralysis from overthinking the abundance of information available online and it’s no wonder people looking to purchase airfares visit travel websites repeatedly before daring to hit the “purchase” button.
Help is here! The free Hopper app for iPhone and iPad smartly “predicts” when you should buy and when you should fly by analyzing the dizzying amount of airfare data on the web.
You begin by entering in where you are flying from and where you would like to go. Hopper checks airfares for your selected route over a few months.
The next screen will display a color-coded calendar showing you a range of when your selected route is cheapest to when it’s most expensive. At the top of the screen, Hopper will also display information about typical best prices for your selected route.
Using the color-coded calendar, select your travel dates. Depending on the dates you select, Hopper will give you advice on what your next steps should be.
For example, flying from New York City to Miami, I selected dates coded in green. These are the days where the best prices for my route are available.
Hopper’s advice is to buy now. The fare information includes the price, as well as predictions about the fare, and how it will change within the coming weeks.
By clicking on the fare, Hopper will display airlines and flight schedules.
Select your outbound and inbound flights to create your itinerary and tell Hopper how many passengers are flying.
From this screen, you can select from online travel booking sites like Orbitz or Travelocity, as well as from the airlines themselves, and Hopper will redirect you in order for you to complete your purchase.
If the dates you select are coded yellow, orange or red indicating higher-priced airfares, Hopper will again give you information about the fare, what will happen to it over the coming weeks, and whether or not you should buy.
By clicking the “Tips” icon at the bottom of your screen, Hopper will also offer feedback on how you can lower your price.
If you’re not ready to book, click the binoculars icon in the upper righthand corner to set up a “watch” for this trip. Hopper will monitor fares and let you know if the price drops so you can book at the best possible price.
Hopper saves you time and money by searching through the mass of airfare data cluttering the web. Worry no more! Download the Hopper app and fly confidently knowing you got the best available airfare price for your trip!

I haven’t tried this app, but I’ll give it at try now. I definitely suffer from analysis paralysis and it sometimes keep me from getting the best fare because I wait too long. This will be very helpful.
I do the same thing, Laura! Glad this app will be helpful for us both! 😉

It gives great flight buying advice and it’s really user-friendly. Definitely give it a try, Megan. 🙂
What a coincidence! I downloaded the app a few weeks back and have played around it for a bit. Haven’t made any booking through the app yet so far though but would be happy to see how it fares when I finally need to make a booking.
I really like how it shows a calendar of low, mid, high prices and then gives you tips for how to adjust your dates or whether or not to book now or wait. Good luck with it! 🙂
What a cool app. I’ve never heard of this, but I definitely need it. I”m the worst about second guessing myself after I hit purchase.
I hear you, Mags. I think you’ll love the tips and advice it gives about buying, waiting, or changing the dates. It’s really helpful in stopping the second guessing!
